In preparation for the 75th anniversary of the Empire Windrush docking in Tilbury on 22nd June 1948, Medway Culture Club is proud to present The Art of Windrush! In collaboration with North Kent Caribbean Network and IntuARTive, we bring you an interactive workshop and celebration of Caribbean Arts & Culture.
Beginning with a unique Creative Clay pottery workshop, experimenting and sculpting using one of the oldest and most natural art forms in the world. For inspiration, we will look at some of the cultural influences that the Windrush Generation brought to the UK and discuss the significance of this migration.
A hot lunch will be served of traditional Jamaican Jerk chicken/ vegetable curry with rice & peas and salad, from Jerk Cafe restaurant in Strood.
After lunch, between 1-2 pm, you are invited to join our bespoke immersive Windrush Arts & Culture Exhibition. This one-off exhibition will showcase a traditional household set-up of the time, authentic vinyl tracks spun by DJ Mikey Ragga, stories of notable Kent-based Windrush patrons and of course the wonderful artwork created by your child/young person on the day, which you can take home as a keepsake of the 75th Anniversary of Windrush.
